Our enrolment process complies with the requirements of our Integration Agreement and the Education and Training Act 2020.
We consider preference and non-preference enrolment as below:
- Preference enrolment: The Education and Training Act 2020 (section 26) states that “the children of parents who have a particular or general philosophical or religious connection with a State integrated school must be preferred to other children for enrolment at the school”. Parents may apply for preference enrolment for their child and the decision to accept the enrolment is made using the criteria stated in the integration agreement.
- Non-preference enrolment: Parents may apply for non-preference enrolment if a student does not meet preference of enrolment criteria. Non-preference enrolment is also determined by criteria, and is dependent upon vacancies at the time of enrolment and restricted to a percentage of the maximum roll as specified in our Integration Agreement.
The Enrolmentment Process
Parents are welcome to complete the enrolment enquiry form. The school office will then respond to your enrolment enquiry to arrange an appointment with the school Principal.
Having met with the Principal your application for enrolment will be confirmed and our office administrator will arrange three school visits for your child. These visits enable the teacher to assess the learning needs of the prospective student and for the student to experience the classroom environment. After completing the school visits the student’s suitability for enrolment will be confirmed with the parents/gaurdians by the Principal.
New students are accepted for enrolment at the beginning of each school term throughout the school year.
Addtitional information about school enrolment
Each child must be enrolled at a registered school by the time they turn 6. Once enrolled, they must attend regularly. If the student would benefit from a staggered transition to school, a plan can be agreed between the child’s parents, the principal, and the Ministry of Education.
If a parent wishes to enrol a child with additional needs, the school may need to apply for appropriate resources from the Ministry of Education to support the student.
If a student has been indefinitely suspended from another school, the board of trustees will meet and consider the individual case, and either accept or decline the enrolment. The board also considers whether this is a preference or non-preference enrolment.
When a student is enrolled, their relevant details are recorded in the Ministry’s ENROL database.
