Strong Foundations

Our primary programme focuses on developing strong foundations in literacy, mathematics, and communication while providing rich learning experiences across the New Zealand Curriculum. Through engaging and purposeful learning, students develop curiosity, creativity, confidence, and a love of learning that will support them throughout their educational journey.

Active Learning

Learning through a balance of explicit teaching, guided practice, exploration, and authentic experiences. Students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate ideas, solve problems, and connect their learning to the world around them. Learning both inside and outside the classroom, students develop understanding of themselves, others, and their environment.

Growing Independence

As children progress through the primary years, they are supported to develop increasing independence, self-management, and responsibility for their learning. Teachers work closely with students and whānau to ensure that every child is challenged, supported, and celebrated for their individual growth and achievement.

SOME OF THE OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNING OUR PRIMARY STUDENTS HAVE

New Zealand Curriculum

The Hare Krishna School teaches the New Zealand Curriculum, providing students with a knowledge-rich education that builds strong foundations across all learning areas. Through carefully sequenced learning, students develop essential knowledge, skills, and understandings while engaging in the distinctive knowledge and practices of each learning area. As they progress through the primary years, children are supported to develop increasing independence, self-management, and responsibility for their learning.

Śāstra & Sanskrit

Grounded in the teachings of the Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition, our curriculum integrates spiritual learning alongside academic excellence. Through Sanskrit, śāstra, daily devotional practices, and authentic opportunities for service, students develop knowledge of Krishna-bhakti and learn to apply its principles in their everyday lives. This distinctive approach supports the development of wisdom, strong character, and a sense of purpose, while nurturing qualities such as kindness, respect, gratitude, self-discipline, compassion, and service.

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM

Our outdoor learning programme provides students with regular opportunities to learn beyond the classroom through hands-on, real-world experiences. By exploring natural environments, caring for living things, and participating in practical activities, students develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Future Ready

By the end of Year 6, students have developed the confidence, skills, and character needed to embrace the opportunities of intermediate schooling and continue their journey as capable, curious, and caring learners.
